A Family and Cultural Tradition of Making Cheese The Right Way!
Staying true to their roots, maintaining high standards, caring for the environment and their cows, producing high quality cheese and keeping it in the family. These are just a few of the points you will find in the Mountainoak Cheese Mission Statement.
Adam van Bergeijk took over his family dairy farm in Holland in 1976. With an interest in making artisan cheese on the farm, Adam and his wife Hannie both attended a renowned cheese maker’s school in Gouda. They began to produce prize-winning cheeses, but the van Bergeijk’s wanted the opportunity to provide a better life for their family. In the 1996 they emigrated to Canada and purchased a farm in Wilmot Township, Ontario. It is here that they grew their dairy farm and cheese making into what it is today.
Milk from their very own dairy cows is taken from the barn directly to the modern, state-of-the-art processing plant that allows them to create award winning Gouda-style cheese once again. Using unpasteurized milk from their own cows insures that Mountainoak cheese is purely Canadian, made of the highest quality ingredients, has a small carbon footprint and is as fresh as cheese can get.
